OPTRON

The OPTRON utility, part of the PolyGon software suite, is an advanced optimization tool designed to enhance well production targets with the goal of maximizing profitability.

OPTRON significantly simplifies the work of reservoir engineers by automating routine tasks and enabling multi-scenario modeling to manage production targets in specific reservoir zones.

Key Benefits

Resource Efficiency

Automation of engineering workflows reduces labor costs

Profit Maximization.

The core functionality is aimed at increasing Net Present Value (NPV)

Operational Flexibility

Users can select different strategies and define custom production scenarios

Data Visualization

The interactive reporting system facilitates comprehensive analysis of results.

What does this tool solve?

OPTRON analyzes production and pressure data history from a specific reservoir zone to determine the best production targets that will maximize profitability.

An illustration of how the OPTRON utility works

How does it work?

OPTRON uses loop optimization to maximize NPV, taking into account the following factors:

  1. Mutual Influence of Wells:
    • Uses multiwell deconvolution methods
    • Capacitance-Resistance Model (CRM)
  2. Water Cut Well Parameters:
    • Based on water cut regression model
  3. Economic Aspects:
    • Accounts for capital and operational expenditures using an integrated economic model

Workflow

  1. Launch PolyGon and import production and pressure data for selected wells
  2. Run well interaction analysis using the DCV solver or CRM model
  3. Execute the OPTRON service, generating an Excel-based user interface file, which can be modified if needed
  4. Re-run OPTRON, uploading the adjusted input file. The service generates mode configuration reports and profitability assessments, providing an output report for analysis.
Description of the input data for the OPTRON utility

Input Data Requirements

  • For Production Wells:
    • Oil production rate
    • Water production rate
    • Bottomhole pressure
  • For Injection Wells:
    • Injection rate

Data Constraints

  • Recommended well count: ~10 wells for optimal performance
  • Data requirements: Input data must reflect operational changes, including well shut-ins, product target adjustments, and other variable factors

Output Data

Upon completion of analysis, OPTRON provides:

  • Optimized well product targets
  • Profitability calculations (NPV-based)
  • Available strategy selection:
    • «No Further Activity» (NFA)
    • «Maximum Production and Injection» (BOOSTER)
    • «Optimized Strategy» (OPTRON)
    • «Custom Scenario»: User-defined configuration with NPV evaluation
  • Interactive HTML report featuring numerical and graphical performance indicators
Description of restrictions when using the OPTRON utility

Limitations

OPTRON relies on multiwell deconvolution or CRM modeling, making it suitable for small well groups (≤10 wells).

Producers must include bottomhole pressure data, while injection wells do not require pressure parameters.

The utility supports a two-phase fluid model (oil-water). Gas wells are not supported.
